There are lots of different options out there when it comes to scenery for model trains. The most popular and easiest to get scales are O and HO, but there are plenty of others out there. Larger scales even allow you to easily make your own scenery, recycling household items to create attractive layouts for very little cost.
Garden trains offer plenty of great scenery opportunities, too. Be sure to make scenery for outdoor trains out of materials that can take the weather! However, you have a lot of versatile options - consider using live shrubs and plants to create an incredibly realistic looking layout. Many people also incorporate plaster or cement garden ornaments in the shape of famous landmarks.
Some model train scenery is already assembled when you get it, but other scenery requires some assembly of prefab pieces. There are individual pieces on the market, like diners, office buildings, and other objects, as well as complete scenery kids. Check out mountain layouts that include special buildings, equipment, and even special cars for your train.
If you want the most detailed and best proportioned scenery, stick to the scale that's meant for use with your scale of model train. This will keep things from looking out of place and allow you to use figures that look like they'll fit in your train. Buildings and landmarks will be the right size, and your whole setup will look a lot more realistic.
For those who are on the market for really high quality model train scenery, holiday shopping is often a great choice. While there are lots of cheap models out at this time, the most interesting winter sets are released during this period, too. You can get lighted buildings that play music, working lamps for your streets, and functioning clock towers, plus important landmarks like Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower.
Model train scenery offers so many different choices that you're only really limited by your budget, space available and your imagination. For those who have very little space, Z scale train scenery is a great choice - everything fits on a tiny desk. There are all kinds of layout examples available online and in books and magazines. Look for the ones with the most detailed information to get the most out of your layout. Check out instructional manuals to find out how to set up a layout properly, and don't forget to enjoy yourself!
