This morning when our Post-Person greeted me with her usual cheery 'hello', I was struck by the thought that I should write to the Post Office to let them know what a good representative of the company this person is; but then I realized that I couldn't remember her name.
We have only been in our present house for a short time and although I had asked her name before, I just couldn't remember it, so I decided to just ask. She told me her name is Mandy; and when I got into the car I sat there for a moment or two thinking how can I remember that name?
'Mandy, Mandy, Mandy' I said to myself with my inner voice; and then I started thinking 'Barry Manilow' and then 'I'm Mandy - Fly Me' (which I think was 10cc). Then, finally, I made the connection between Air Mail and Mandy the Post-Person. So I know I'll never forget her name again.
Mandy is honest - over Christmas she found my wife's watch on the front drive and knocked on the door to hand it over. She is cheerful, bubbly, good-natured and up-beat. To have that attitude to life bestows her personality with a kind of irresistibility - you just get the sense that nothing could stand in the way of her achieving anything she wants.
If you could bottle that kind of enthusiasm, you could sell it for whatever you asked. You could get in the car and then just as you got to work - whatever you are doing right now - you would take a drop or two or the enthusiasm potion; and for the remainder of the day, you would be unstoppable.
So I got to thinking about whether it would be possible to develop my own Enthusiasm Potion. Here is what I would put into the mixture:
Enthusiasm
Confidence
Ebullience
Unstop-abiltiy
Cheeriness
Good-Humour
These things came immediately to my mind as candidate-ingredients for such a concoction - and then I had a great idea! Why not use the NLP anchoring technique to anchor these feelings and attitudes but instead of anchoring them to a hand gesture, which would be quite usual, why not actually anchor them to a drink?
What is stopping me from getting into the enthusiastic, confident, ebullient frame of mind early in the morning and then taking my normal glass of cranberry juice. If I were to do this every morning for a week, I would surely have established an NLP anchor; and I would actually have my own Enthusiasm Potion.
Once the anchor is established, I can benefit every time I drink my normal morning drink. Using the NLP anchor, I can quickly and easily get into the best possible state to deal with the demands of the day ahead!
There you go - what a great idea. You can work on developing your own potions for various purposes. The idea has substantial mileage I think.
