As if it was not hard enough to become pregnant when you suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome there is also a link between miscarriage and PCOS that you need to worry about. Many studies have shown that PCOS is a risk not only to your own health but to your unborn child as well making PCOS a nightmare for women who want to be mothers.

The reasons for miscarriage with PCOS can be different however as there does not seem to be a single cause but a few problems that can all increase the risk such as:

Blood Clots

Because of the insulin resistance that is at the core of PCOS your body may have a tendency to develop blood clots in the body that are not cleared properly. This can restrict the flow of nutrients to the embryo causing it to develop poorly and die.

Luteinizing Hormone hypersecretion

This complex sounding name basically means that a certain hormone is created with too much abundance. This happens when the egg is being released from the ovary and causes it to happen too soon which causes defects in the egg which the body rejects during pregnancy causing a miscarriage. This is another symptom of PCOS that is caused by hormone imbalances.

Protein Deficiency

There are two types of proteins that have more recently been found that are low in women with PCOS. A study showed that of all the women who miscarriage in a large group of pregnant women about 90% of them had PCOS and this low protein was a common factor. These proteins are essential to embryo development and without it can jeopardize the whole process.

While these are not the be all end all of miscarriage and PCOS it is a disturbing set of findings that should have any women with the condition that is planning on a family to take notice. IF you are one of these women treatments for PCOS to normalize this hormonal imbalance due to insulin resistance should be high on your list of priorities.
