In order for one to be a medical transcriptionist, they will have to know about the human body. They should have great transcription skills, know a fair amount about medical terminology, have good English skills, grammar and spelling should be 100%, and you should be able to work long hours. A medical transcriptionist might also be known as Medical Language Specialists, so if you hear the term, don't panic. It means exactly the same thing. With a degree in this, you will be able to get a job at a hospital, insurance company, a physicians' office, or just as a plain medical transcriptionist from home.

Many transcriptionists find it better to work from home because they can then have their own thing going. They have a list of clientele that they work with regularly and are normally always looking to expand. If they know how to and will be able to handle it on their own, working from home is better as you know all the work is yours, and no one else's. You will also know that these clients will keep coming back to you if you offer good services. If you attend a good college you should have nothing to worry about. There are many medical transcriptionist colleges, so there is likely to be one in your area or at least near by.

The colleges that one can choose from when interested in being a transcriptionist vary in locations, costs, number of students and courses available. You will have to do your homework properly when researching which college will be best for you. Look at all of your options before you choose one. Make sure you can afford the entire course. There's no point going halfway or only completing your first year; that will be a waste of your time as well as your money.
