So you have decided to move house. Maybe your family has outgrown your current home or you have to move for work. However, every time we turn the TV on or open a newspaper we hear of falling house prices and how now is not a good time to move house. For some people there is no choice and they have to move. It is not all as bad as it may seem. Yes the price of your property may have fallen but the likelihood is that the price of the property that you are going to buy will have fallen also.   Therefore if you are in a situation where you have to sell your home then it is more important than ever that it is in top condition and you can get the best price possible for it. There are a few measures you can take to improve your home that will help to increase its value.

One of the hardest things when selling a house is actually getting potential buyers through the door. The curb appeal of your house is very important. The likelihood is that potential buyers will drive past your property before they book a viewing. Therefore make sure that the garden is tidy and that fences and gates are painted. Move bins out of sight and a couple of well placed pots with plants in can work wonders. Make sure the windows and doors are in good condition and clean. If you have old timber framed windows and doors you should consider replacing them with uPVC windows and uPVC doors. Research has proven that one of the features of a house high up on many peoples wish lists is uPVC windows and uPVC doors. Therefore by offering uPVC windows and uPVC doors you will not only improve the curb appeal of your home but also make it more appealing to potential customers.

If your budget allows then adding extra living space to your home can help to make it more attractive to potential customers and help to add value. One of the most affordable ways of adding value to a property is by adding a conservatory. Conservatories not only add living space but they also like no other room in the house as they have a unique light and airy feel. Again conservatories are often high up on peoples wish lists when buying a new property and conservatories have proven to add value to many homes.

Make sure the internal decor is fresh and clean. A lick of paint does not have to cost the earth and can make a big difference to a room. You should always opt for neutral colours. Avoid picking colours to suit your personal tastes and try to go for colours which will appeal to a mass audience. If you have a large amount of possessions then consider putting some items in storage as this will make the house feel bigger.

Moving house is never an easy time and now more so than ever in the current economic climate. It is therefore more important than ever that you maximise the potential value in your current home. By making some simple changes and ensuring your home looks at its best you can be confident you have done all you can to sell your home.
