Mastering Latent Semantic Indexing

Some time ago, I wrote an article on Latent Semantic Indexing because it was a new concept to me and many of the definitions I had found were too dense to understand easily.

Since then I have found even better explanations in the blog posts of Sean Rasmussen, who is one of Australia's top internet marketers.

In those posts, I found explanations for mastering latent semantic indexing to be both easy to understand and, just as importantly, easy to implement.

Latent semantic indexing techniques are an essential part of using keywords effectively in the content of blog posts and website pages.

It is how Google assesses quality on a page as it searches for indicators that relate to the topic or subject. This is because search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, use processes that assist users find 'smart' searches. It is more than just including plurals of the basic keywords. It is using phrases that are semantically related - such as a synonym.

Additionally, reversing the order of a long tail phrase can also be included. The search engines want to help visitors find what they need as precisely as they can. LSI helps them do this with the terms or words that a searcher enters into the search bar.

Those who are seasoned users of search engines know that using the tilde symbol(~) tells a search engine to return, not only exact matches, but content that is related semantically as well.

BTW 'semantic' simply means related to meaning in language or logic.

If you can use more related words in the text of a pages content, then you improve the chance of a spider crawling over your page, and then referring users to it.
