Massage Therapy in Figures

Getting a massage is definitely something to look forward to after a very tiring week. Many of us can certainly attest to that. They always seem to end up the work week with pain in several areas of the body. This is not to mention the stress the mind has experienced after undergoing a lot of tasks and stress at work.

On the other hand, there are also other people who use massage not to get rid of stress but to restore their lost movement after an injury. With regular massage therapy sessions, they are able to walk or run again.

The popularity of massage treatments led a lot of people to believe that there is still truth to the power of healing. Here are some of the figures based on a national survey in 2002 with Americans as respondents:

It goes well with modern medicine.

This survey showed that almost 60 percent of the respondents believe that the modern medicinal treatments that they receive will produce better effect if paired with regular massage therapy sessions. True enough, medicine treatments are often more effective when the patient is relaxed. The blood circulation is also at its best which makes the treatment best absorbed by the body.

There are still those who believe in alternative medicine.

An approximate of 34 percent of the respondents were skeptical about the modern treatments given by hospitals today. It is probably because of the substances that instead of making them feel better, do otherwise. For instance, oral and topical pain relievers provide temporary relief. With massage, muscles, tissues and ligaments are all corrected and restored to its former condition. Massage is one way to get rid of recurring pain.

Massage therapy was a suggested treatment by their doctor. Massage is now more than an alternative method in healing. In fact, members of the medical profession also recognize it as a way to improve a patient's condition. An estimated 33 percent of the respondents answered that they tried getting a massage because it was suggested to them by their doctor.

Massage is the cheaper choice. Of course, the price of a treatment is a consideration for patients. 13 percent of the respondents chose to get themselves a massage treatment rather than actually undergo medical procedures. Since a massage only involves very basic things, it is really a cheaper choice as compared to the medicine and equipment costs that they need to pay for during a treatment.
