Marx Trains - All Aboard!

Marx trains are some of the most beloved and treasured toy locomotives in history. It all started when Louis Marx founded his company in New York in 1919. The Louis Marx and Co existed in business till 1978. Marx trains were extremely popular amongst model train collectors and they were one of the most well loved model locomotives of their time. Model trains were a very popular pastime and hobby in the 1920's and 30's. The hobby and craze of the model train stated amongst the kids of that time and as they got older, they carried this love of trains with them into their middle age. By this time, many of the companies that were so well loved went out of business and so the value of these trains started growing as they became more and more rare. These trains then became collectable items and these days some of the rarer trains can sell for many thousands of dollars.

The Marx trains were all very distinctive as they came stamped with the 'MAR' logo. The logo itself became popular and almost a fashion statement as it was emblazoned on sports hats and t-shirts. Throughout the 50's the hobby of collecting model trains was in full swing. Kids would receive elaborate train sets as Christmas presents and it was not unheard of to spend an entire month building complicated worlds filled with junction and train tracks. The hobbyist could then pretend to be a train engineer and set his train to run from one station to another. It was almost a type of role playing game at the time.

The model train collecting hobby has diminished in modern times as the demand for these trains and their accessories has fallen. Old world trains and rare to find and can fetch a lot of money as antiques. This was and still can be a very fulfilling and engrossing hobby and has brought joys to thousands of people worldwide.
