Well it means that the reason a married man or women has an affair in the first place is not based on sex. While their sex lives are suffering, that is usually a effect of something more deeper. Usually this is an emotional need is not being met... or what tends to happen a lot these days is the married couple barely even gets to see each other because of work obligations.

Emotional needs are not met on either end and the vicious circle continues. This will explain why most affairs happen with work associates. Although that is changing at a rapid pace.
