Wondering if getting marriage advice online is a good idea?

That's a darn good question considering that a) your marriage is turmoil, and b) things online tend to be bogus. So yes, you bring up a very worth concern.

Actually it wasn't long ago at all that I was looking for marriage advice online myself. My marriage had seen turmoil for about 6 years too long, and I was at my wits end. Well, let me rephrase that...we were both at our wits end.

I'm not sure but I think my wife was probably searching for marriage advice online as well. So at least we were both trying to save our marriage. We both thought it was important enough that we actively searched online for marriage advice.

Now the Question is...Is Online a Good Place to Get Advice on Marriage?

Actually, I think it is a great place to get marriage advice.

Here's why.

Let's face it, you really don't want to go around asking the people you know. I mean I made the mistake once of asking my mother for marriage advice and OMG... first she panicked because she thought I was getting divorced right then and there (she probably thought I was going to ask her if I could move back in or something).

But then worse than that she decided that she should get involved, and of course took her baby boy's side, and started calling my wife and yelling at her. It was a mess. Damn near ended my marriage all together from that.

So you don't want to ask people that you know for marriage advice.

Your other alternative is to go to see a counselor. Honestly I wasn't really into going and sitting in front of some person who was probably going to take sides, and who was going to charge me tons and tons of money for doing so. It's very expensive.

I'm not knocking marriage counseling. I think it's great for some people, I just wasn't in that frame of mind then.

Getting marriage advice online is fine. Most of the people giving marriage advice online are either people who generally care, are actually counselors, or are people who have been through it and want to help as many people as they can.

Sure there are some scam artists who just set up bogus web pages for advertising money, but guess what I realized? Those people usually steal the articles from the "real deal" people anyways.

One word of caution though. If you're going to go to an online forum, you may want to reconsider. You see these are places full of people who's marriages usually are worse than yours and they're trying to give you advice.

Not the people you want advice on.

People giving marriage advice online are impartial and they aren't going to go after your spouse because she said something mean to her little boy. That's enough for me to go on.
