"The process of creating, transmitting and maintaining the past and the present is culture." This capacity was called "time binding" by the noted American semanticist Alfred Korzybiski.
In an article newspaper, I wrote about how "Art Links." Painting, sculpture, impressions of time and space, communication and forms of knowledge that add and subtract, as each man in his own time struggles to preserve the beauty and endowment of his/her developments.
In many fields of studies, culture is invented and transferred from one generation to the next generation that includes music, arts, language, literature, information, and man's ways of changing to live comfortably in his/ her time. This brings a showcase of original and modified norms and ways of living.
"Like: Plants bind chemicals, animals bind space, but man alone binds time," asserted Korzybiski.
Good teaching is capable of helping and nurturing these improvements rise from the unique human abilities of each man.
"Whatever we know and do as human beings, we have had to learn from other human beings," as the saying goes.
In comparison, other creatures have to learn very little. For which of what they do, they are equipped by instinct, that is by automatic action without reasoning or design. Man differs from all other creatures in the possession of the following characteristics, like language and others, which at the same time constitute the conditions for the development of his/her (human) culture.
Time develops the capacity for symbolic thought, freedom, speech, and education. That is why we're free from being Goths and man-eaters. We have created the set of rules and justice for orderly communities. We are improved by education, science and technology - and spiritually, by religion and discipline.
Grabbing food from another person's mouth, and grabbing territories in wars are uncivilized ways, hence, corrected by educability and progress. Educability is the development of complex intelligence endowed by God to man and innovation by culture and how man adapts to his culture I call "work."
Moreover, the advanced state of social development is: Samuel Johnson writes "A descent provision for the poor is the true test of civilization." How could we achieve this in this modern times? True enough, science and technology has advanced and brought us to the moon and inventions to facilitate comforts in life - but then, man has to remember that his evolution should bring him to preservation of species not the destruction of it.
