Male Eating Disorders - 3 Causes of Male Anorexia You Really Need to Know

Male eating disorders are well known to have been part of men's lives for a lot of years now. One of the biggest growth phases can be as men hit their mid twenties and upwards due to the metabolism slowing down, weight gain occurring even though they are doing regular exercise and eating less.

Finding out the root causes of male eating disorders before treating them is the first step that one should take. Lets take a look at 3 of those basic causes.

~ Male Eating Disorders - 3 Causes ~

Cause # 1. Your Genetics - Sometimes you will see some siblings who are obese or fat but there is one who is the actual opposite of the others. The answer can be that someone in their bloodline has suffered either female or male anorexia before. This can be one of those families that is the perfectionist type.

A male family anorexic member can have depression tendencies, body issues and could have been laughed at by neighbours, class mates and friends when growing up. Frequent mocking during childhood or teen years can develop into obsessive compulsive behaviours. They can tend to be perfectionists and a goal in their mind is not to be fat or obese like their siblings or parents.

Cause # 2. Your Family - This is a lot more to do with how a child has been raised. We know that no family can be perfect but there are some families who are the more loving, affectionate kind than goal oriented. These parents accept the children just as they are even though they are not brilliant athletes or top of the class academically.

Then there are the goal oriented types. Due to this mentality some of their children do make it to the top where as with others the pressure can lead to major depression, psychological illness and create the beginning symptoms of anorexia nervosa.

Cause # 3. People & Society - The media, television, people around you and the culture pressures all play their own part in the consciousness of your image. Research has shown that males are a lot more influenced by all these factors than women. Females chat more to each other about their issues where as males tend to do more personal research on subjects that are bothering them.

This is why suicides in males are higher because they bottle it up rather than discussing it to solve the problem. Its clearly very important to know the causes of male eating disorders before treating them then they are easier cured. This is the case both mentally and physically.
