When you get breast augmentation work done, there are a variety of options. There isn't just one way to make the incisions, and each incision option has its pros and cons. Let's have a look at the different types of cuts available for your breast augmentation.
Periareolar - A Trip Around The Nipple
This is one of the most popular incision techniques because it blends in. Your scar will be nearly invisible. With a periareolar incision, the surgeon cuts right around the nipple, and the border between your nipple and breast is where the scar will be concealed.
Periareolar incisions are very effective for implants. It's a key area of the chest that allows the surgeon lots of flexibility in contouring and shaping the end result. It's also a great spot for the surgeon because it offers the best control over bleeding. This means it's safe for you, and easy for them.
Inframammary - Under The Breast
With this type of procedure, the doctor makes the cut in the crease where breasts meet chest. Like the periareolar, this scar is concealed well from the outside world. It's a great advantage to the doctor too, because it allows the best visibility. By making the cut under the breast, they can see easily what they're doing when they put the implant in.
The great advantage is that the doctor has the most flexibility and visibility. The only disadvantage is that, while the scar is in a place where nobody looks, the scars can usually be seen when wearing small bathing suits. If you don't want anybody knowing that you've had any work done when you wear your bikini, this is not the best option.
Axillary - When You Really Want To Hide Those Scars
This is probably the most effective technique for hiding your scars, but it puts a strain on the plastic surgeon. Axillary incisions are made in the armpit. The breast augmentation surgery is done by remote means, using a tiny camera. The result is that your scars will be VERY hard to see, and there will be no scarring around the breasts at all.
The major downside is that it's tough as heck to perform this type of surgery. It requires a highly trained surgeon with lots of experience doing axillary work. If there is a complication during surgery, the doctor will have to make a cut in the chest.
Talk to your plastic surgeon about these incisions, and be informed on where they're going to make the cut. It can make a huge difference for both you and the doctor. Your breast augmentation should leave you feeling satisfied. Think about scarring, and pick the right incision type for you.
