Children are our future. They are the ones who will grow up and inherit our earth as well as carry our lineage forward. Children bring joy in our lives and light up our lives. It is not only biological for everyone to look forward to the birth of their young ones but is an emotional and psychological experience too for both the parents and the family.
No doubt children are our priority. But the hustle bustle of the urban lifestyle and being caught in the rat race, we often loose site of the fact that we need to give quality time to our home and children. Just thinking that children are important is not enough. You need to show it in action too.
It is always nice to look for things to do together and do things that both you and your children enjoy doing. It can be going to baseball classes or the theatre. You can teach them all you know about the theatre and games and they will enjoy learning from you.
But then before you start with all these adventures, one thing you must learn to accept is that there is a generation gap between you and your children. You cannot expect them to like what you like and do what you think is important. They have a free mind and will to do what they like. You can only share your perspectives with them.
It is not necessary that everything you like or try out is something that all of you will enjoy. Keep trying out new things and over many trials and errors you will find few things that you really enjoy doing together.
As a parent, you can keep a watch to see what they like and take interest in that activity even though you may not like it or feel excited.
One doesn't have to go out of the way be too accommodating. You have enough avenues to try out and find something of common interest to all of you.
What is important is to make an honest attempt at connecting with them and being there for them when they need you. Instead of letting them watch TV, if you engage them in playing, you can help them grow healthy and keep out of wrong influences.
