If you are fortunate enough to get flowers for a Valentines Day flower delivery, you will want to make sure that they last as long as possible. With the right care, your cut flowers can last for about a week, depending on the bloom. If you receive roses, they usually last the longest, along with carnations. You just have to be sure to take care of them as soon as you receive the Valentines Day flower delivery.
After you have received the flower delivery, you should then put the flowers in water. While this seems like common sense, the sooner that you do this, the better for the flowers and the longer they will last. Most florists will send cut flowers with water tubes attached to the stems of the flowers. Remove these water tubes as they are only to keep your flowers fresh until the flower delivery. Once you have received them, you need to start caring for them.
Most florists will send a packet of flower food with the flower order. Do not throw this away, but put it into the water so that your flowers will stay preserved for a longer period of time. Cut flowers are already dead so you are not looking for them to grow - you are merely preserving the bloom by keeping the flower hydrated. You should also cut the bottom of the stems so that more water can be absorbed into the stem of the flower.
If you start taking care of your flowers when you receive a flower delivery for Valentines Day, you will find that they tend to last longer. If they are roses and consist of some buds, you will see that the roses tend to open up more each day until they reach full bloom. Gradually, they will start to lose their petals and wither, even with the best of care. You can sometimes make roses last up to 2 weeks with extra special care.
Other flowers do not last as long as roses. Carnations do last a long time, like roses, with special care. Daffodils and lilies last a bit less than roses. Exotic flowers like orchids will often only last a week, even with the best of care.
Clip the ends of the stems slightly and change the water daily to get the most from your cut flowers. Getting a Valentines Day flower delivery can be very exciting, especially if this is the first time you have received flowers. You can keep them looking beautiful longer with good care.
