Make High Protein Nutritious Smoothies at Home

Cool off in the heat of the summer with a delicious smoothie. Get tons of protein and all those good complex cards that your body needs in one cool refreshing glass. With protein and complex carbs being a great base for any ones diet, a smoothie is an awesome way to simplify and make a nutritious meal with these things in it.It can get rid of those sweet cravings or that urge for that sugar packed Popsicle. And, if you pay attention to portion size and how you make it, you can make it into a really low calorie meal.

What you need to make a delicious and nutritious smoothie:

  • Water or Juice- I personally use water to cut back on the calories, and I just use enough to make sure it will help blend everything together nicely. You can also use juice. You just want to make sure you make a good choice for the juice you use. You don't want those man packed sugar juices. That will only up your calories and do you no good, it may send you into a sugar induced coma. Just make sure you pick a naturally made juice with no added sugars. Making a smoothie without the packed full of sugar juice cuts out all the nasty simple carbs you do not want. Simple carbs such have a high glycemic index, which causes your insulin levels to spike. In result of this your metabolism will be negatively effected and slowed down. This is why it is important to choose the right juice or just simply use water.
  • Fruit- This is where you get all your complex carbs from. In other words "good" carbs! And complex carbohydrates are a must for boosting your metabolism. They are found in fresh fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Consuming complex carbs will keep your blood sugar and insulin levels at a steady level.You can use fresh fruit, or already frozen fruit. I prefer pre-frozen fruit or fruit i froze myself because this way I do not have to use ice or add in extra calories with ice cream or frozen yogurt. When choosing fruit you can get really creative and come up with a lot of different mixtures. The possibilities are endless.
  • Whey Protein Powder- The powder is where you make sure you get your protein from. It is an excellent source to use to make sure you get it to. The body uses up a bunch of stored energy to properly digest and process protein, during this there is a lot of calorie burning taking place, that is just one good thing about protein. Do not forget the fact that we need it for our bodies to function properly. Also when you consume more protein then simple carbs in a meal your body produces a hormone that makes your body rely on fat as a fuel source.
