M3904 NTMN34GC-70-E6 Strange Search Results With Bing and Yahoo

Expert Author Chris Angulo

It's no secret that Bing and Yahoo are always looking for ways to out due the big Google monster. I have found yet another reason why Google may actually still be ahead way above its time. The Nortel M3904 phone part number of NTMN34GC-70-E6 shows only 5 search results in Bing and Yahoo. Why is this odd? Google has 1,030 results.

The following questions pop into my mind when search engines try to digest networking and telecom equipment part numbers:

  • Why don't search engines understand social activity does not revolve around part number level searches?
  • Why do search engines having a hard time deciphering between NTMN34GC-70-E6 and NTMN34GC-66-E6? Most often on dynamic driven pages even with unique content, a similarity or duplicate content flag is tagged to sites having part numbers so close in spelling to each other.
  • Do the number of searches performed by users on search engines influence the number of pages related to that query to be served?
  • Do search engines have separate algorithms in place based on what type of query relates to your landing page of content by industry?

You know, I don't want to go too overboard on this topic. I was mainly using the NTMN34GC-70-E6 part number as an example showing not all search engines are created equal. Between all 3 engines there are pros and cons that will be left in the user's hands to decide if they are receiving the information they wanted. As of today, Google seems to be an intent engine favoring branded websites over everything else. Their direction is quite nerve raking as they can also influence the way a user would search to adjust to them. In the end, no search engine will be perfect. It's almost like saying you, as an individual, always know what's best for yourself and others.

The best part about this is Bing and Yahoo serves 5 results each assuming this is exactly what you wanted without to many choices. Google is swaying towards an intention engine while Bing and Yahoo push to a decision engine.
