Two Types

Chronic: For many, chronic back pain becomes progressively worse and the cause can be hard to identify. Most commonly, chronic back pain is determined by the length of time a person suffers. For example: more than 90 days is typically labeled as Chronic.

Acute: Overwhelmingly more abundant, acute back pain typically only last a few day to a few weeks and is labeled as short term pain. That said, it is very important to get diagnosed in the beginning as some acute pain problems can develop into stronger medical problems if not addressed.

Causes: Whether from the trauma of a sports injury, the jolt of an auto accident, or any other high stress incident, almost all acute pain is the direct result of trauma to the spinal area and the tissues around the spine.

Symptoms: Symptoms range from sore muscles to sharp stabbing pain. Along with the pain, many will suffer from a loss of the ability to flex their body without pain. They actually lose their range of motion. Another symptom is part of your body pulling against another. A good example of this is not being able to raise both arms up above your head to the same height without pain or having one shoulder lower that the other.
