Losing Weight After Your Pregnancy

Expert Author Anna Sandpakdee

Many new moms want to achieve rapid weight loss after pregnancy. After nine months during which you've seen your body growing, transforming and becoming much more difficult to move around, you feel it's time to resume fitness. And the fact that none of your older clothes fits doesn't seem very encouraging. Lots of women feel like a total mess, not only because of their looks but also because of the so-called baby blues. Depression often strikes at such times, and discontent with your weight, definitely ruins your mood.

Diet and physical exercises will change the way you feel, but you have to be patient with yourself and keep your focus on the baby. A new mom has such a bright perspective and so much joy in her life; don't allow clouds to cover your sky at such times. While the diet can be adjusted right away, it will take a bit longer for you to get your physical strength back and start working out. You can take up easy physical exercises but only if the doctor says it is right for you to do so.

Start with nice walks in the park when you take the baby out. This is a great time for you to improve you physical shape and increase the muscle strength once again. Then, you can start using the stationary bike or the treadmill and thus increase the level of effort progressively. Moreover, even if you feel great, there is no point in pushing things too far, particularly if less than a month has passed from delivery. Normally, doctors recommend to wait up to two months before you start physical workouts.

Women who've had a cesarean section may have to wait a little longer until the wound heals, and the muscles are in the right condition to support higher levels of physical effort. The recovery also depends on subjective factors that differ from woman to woman. Follow doctor's advice and don't be too eager on weight loss after pregnancy, until you are really ready for it.

In case you are breastfeeding, you should be careful with the use of herbal weight loss supplements because they could contain substances that pass in the milk and then to the baby. It is in fact advisable to postpone the use of metabolic boosters until you stop breastfeeding. Administration will be much safer then! Make sure you drink plenty of water too, both to flush toxins and reduce water retention as well as to support milk secretion.
