Looking Through The Eyes Of a Burglar

When it comes to home break-ins there are certain things a thief looking for a home to break-in looks for when they scan houses in a neighborhood. The first thing that they look for is a house that does not have a security system, a house that has high bushes, trees and shrubs near the doors and windows of a home. This makes it easy access when the windows and doors have hiding places and when there is no sign of a home security system they know this is the house for them.

There are also other things this person will look for and one of them is the traditional porch light that is turned on by a switch, if this is the only lighting around the home and is turned on when someone knocks at the door or when the family is out then the thief can tell when someone is home and when everyone is gone out.

This person will watch for windows that are left open that will gain them easy access to the house and other easy entrances, attached garage doors, sliding glass doors and French doors. Each of these has ways of entering the home if they do not have the proper theft protection locks on them.

There are also burglars that will watch a home and its habits such as the family's routines and their vacations, this makes it easy to break in the home and be there alone with very different ideas than the family would have.

Pet doors are another thing that a burglar will look for, first they will want to know what type of dog the family owns. Some family pets are friends with everyone while others bark, growl and even bite, they will also watch how the pet door is used, if it is left unlocked when the family is gone from the house and even when they are at home. Doggy doors for large dogs are often large enough for a small person to climb through and ones that are not very large are still large enough that if the only lock on this door handle is locked they may be move the lock to the open door. Even if you are not the family that leaves home often may still be leaving easy entrance to hunting break-in artists.

Most of the thieves who operate on this system of watching a house prior to breaking will make it an easy place to break-in.
