Looking Into the Location of Helston - Cornwall

Located on the Northern part of the Lizard Peninsula you will find Helston - Cornwall. It is actually the southernmost location in all of the United Kingdom. In the year of 2001 this area would celebrate the 800th anniversary of being a town. That is a fantastic long time, and will offer the history lover a lot to see.

There is held each year a festival in this location called the Furry Dance, it is quite something to see, and it dates back to the medieval times. Found on the River Cober, this location was once home to a inland port. But there has since had a sand bar that has formed, making access impossible. However, you can now find a really great natural water located in the same spot.

When the port closed up it would hurt the area a bit, cutting out some of the commerce that they had enjoyed. At that time they had dealt in mining tin, coins and cattle trade. You have many ways that you can easily travel to this location if you plan to visit.

Now back to that wonderful Furry Dance Festival that you will find taking place in town. The whole festival will begin at seven in the morning with the first dance. It will go all day and a total of four dances will be done during the whole day.

Each dance is done in different customs and styles depending on which dance is taking place. The first dance is one where the men will be in grey trousers and white shirts. The women in this dance will be dressed in summer frocks. Men also have a tie that holds the crest of the town on it.

The second dance of the day is one that is done by children from the school. In this dance the girls adorn head dresses and it is quite the spectacle. While the midday and third dance is considered to be the premier of all the dances. This dance will see the people wearing long gowns, and full morning wear.

While that last dance that starts at 5 pm is one that only local people will be able to participate in. The people will complete two trips around the town during this dance. And most of these people are ones that would have danced at an earlier time in the day.
