Looking For a Family Car? Consider an MPV
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

MPVs (or multi purpose vehicles) are becoming an increasingly common sight on the roads of Great Britain and Europe. Car manufacturers are really beginning to understand the needs of the average family, who demand a car with space for up to seven adults and room for luggage but also need something with a little style and flair. Early MPV cars were notorious for being "boxy" with little aesthetic appeal. The interiors were often drab and fixed. However, the modern MPV is quite different. Many have a versatile cabin, where seats can be removed or laid flat to create a larger cubic capacity when required. They are also looking much smarter on the outside and some manufacturers are starting to design sporty MPV cars, where performance is not sacrifices over practicality.

If you are looking for a stylish but ultimately practical family car then Vauxhall will certainly have a model for you. The popular car manufacturer has been at the forefront of MPV car design and production, and currently boasts two models in its MPV range, the Meriva and the Zafira.

The popularity of both models means that there are also plenty of second hand deals available so you should be able to find something to match your budget.

The Meriva is a compact MPV, but don't be fooled by the word "compact". Externally it is ideal for city driving, and is easy to park and manoeuvre. However, internally thanks to some clever design features the Meriva certainly has lots of room for shopping, buggies and passengers. It has what Vauxhall call "FlexSpace" seating. FlexSpace seating is an ingenious method of adding or removing seats from the cabin without actually lifting them out. The seats can fold down completely flat and will move easily in a forwards, backwards and even sideways direction. Awkward luggage can be accommodated easily as the seats can fold in 40/20/40 arrangement. For added comfort the rear seats can also be reclined, just like the front seats.

The Zafira is the largest MPV in the Vauxhall range and has proved to be a popular choice for many buyers. It seats up to 7 adults comfortably, whilst leaving space for luggage in the back. New production model Zafiras are available with Flex7 seating, which is fully adaptable to suit your requirements.

For those looking to purchase an MPV without sacrificing performance then the Zafira VXR is worth considering. It reaches 60mph in just 7.2 seconds, which considering the size of the vehicle is an impressive achievement.

All Vauxhall cars are available in a wide variety of colours and if you are buying from new you get the chance to specify any extras you may require. Second hand buyers do not have this luxury, but there are many superb Vauxhall MPVs available on the used market.
