List Building - Some Offline Tips to Get More Opt-Ins and Grow Your Email Subscriber List

Expert Author Lisa J Oliver

Effective list building is paramount for internet marketers, and let's not forget our offline marketing efforts. Below is a list of offline methods to increase the number of opt-ins to build your email subscriber list. Please note that many of them involves a free giveaway and some marketing spend (but remember to always barter where you can to keep costs to a minimum).

1. Flyer Marketing

Put together a quick flyer about your free lead capture page giveaway, then print up hundreds of copies. Post an advert locally, or on the internet, for someone to (legally) fly post for you, then get them to distribute the flyers on public noticeboards, the post office, grocery stores, shopping centres, everywhere you can think of!

2. Take a stand at an exhibition or trade fair

Set up a table at your local fair, trade show or industry event. Get visitors to supply their name and email in return for a free gift that relates to your niche, or ask them to enter a competition or survey. Needless to say the more popular the fair, the more subscribers you'll get.

3. Advertise in local papers and local ads

Post an advert in your local newspaper. Wait until the publication is on its deadline to go to print before contacting and you should be able to negotiate a bargain price. Keep the advert short and sweet, and again, highlight your free offer to maximise opt-ins.

4. Give a free local presentation

If you are an expert in your niche, give a free, local presentation in a larger city. Ensure you market it well (using methods 1 & 3), or offer to be a free speaker for colleges and universities. When at an event, make it clear to prospects that all information from your presentation can be obtained by registering at your website..

6. Get some publicity

Journalists need stories. Call up your local newspapers and magazines, pitch an interesting angle and get yourself interviewed. The same applies to radio. Head over to http://www.blogtalkradio.com and sign up to get a free radio show, which you can do just with a telephone, or get yourself featured on a real radio show - college radio shows are always looking for guest speakers, especially those with an interesting story to tell.

7. Attend a networking event

Networking has been long proven as one of the most effective ways to build relationships and improve business performance and it's also a great method for building your email list. Put your lead capture page on your business cards and when you are out networking and collecting business cards, consider how valuable these new contacts will be to your email marketing efforts. If you have a good rapport with someone then why not go ahead and ask for permission to add them to your list? You would be surprised at the number of positive responses networking can generate.

Implement the above methods well, and you will certainly see a good return on your investment and a marked increase in traffic and opt-ins in order to grow your email subscriber list.
