Liquid fasting for health and healing is one of the most natural and traditional of all holistic health practices. Consider the following facts about fasting:
- The first thing an animal does when it's sick in the wild is to stop eating. This is a natural reaction to a sickness because when we fast the body can use the energy saved on healing the parts that need the most attention. This phenomenon applies also to our pets. Also avoid sweet fruit juices like orange and mango. Instead opt for more vegetable juices like cucumber, celery and tomato.
- Water fasting requires a bit more dedication but can also have profound effects on the body. On a water fast you simply don't consume anything except pure water. Pure water includes filtered water, mineral water and in the best case, distilled water. Distilled water is great for a fast because it supports detoxification of the body.
For a person of average health, fasting is regarded as a safe practice. People with severe health issues really need to talk to their doctor and/or natural health practitioner before undergoing a course of fasting. That said, limited fasting of 24 hours is fine for most people.
A few things to expect when you are fasting:
- You may have low energy or weakness
- You may have some detox symptoms like headaches or dizziness -these should only last 36 to 48 hours
- Hunger pangs will go away after 36 hours or so
- If you fast for more than a couple of days, you'll most likely experience more energy and clarity than you are used to.
