Something that I have come to realize is that, to be truly successful in lifestyle design, you have to live your passion! You can't design a life that has no soul, no passion in it for you and have it work. You cannot try to live someone else's life and have it work for you. The only way that happens is if, by some chance, you are in complete sync with that other person.
Now here is the tricky part. Most of us are so programmed to accept other people's thought as our own that we are barely able to think for ourselves! We think we want X, Y, and Z, but in reality, we don't want Z, have never liked X and Y doesn't hold much interest either. What we want is B, T, and M.
We are afraid to ask for or go out and work for B, T, and M because someone might think we're crazy. Nobody wants M! Well, you do. Tell the world to take a hike and go for M like there is no tomorrow! You have to be your own person. You cannot live for the dream of someone else.
I recently started reading "Crush It!" by Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary basically says that if you are not living and working your passion, you will never have a chance to be real successful. You may achieve a certain level of success, but it will never be what it could be or what you would like it to be.
What is your passion? Now remember this, it doesn't have to be something that the world has decided is a good thing. You may want to be the best home made brick maker in the world. Who cares if the world doesn't think that is of the same value as a Doctor? Also, your passion may be less about a certain thing and more about a value or quality. You may want to be assertive. You have never been able to stand up for yourself and you want to become assertive. This might be the design for your life that you have wanted since you were a child.
Lifestyle design does not have to be about one certain thing. It can be about whatever you want it to be about. Remember, you are designing the lifestyle you want. If that includes being assertive, then that is what you want and no one has any say in the matter!
Find your passion, whatever it might be. Take some time to be real honest with yourself. You might enlist the help of someone close to you so that you can talk out loud and bounce your ideas off of. Once you know your passion, and remember it can change over time, then begin to take steps to live it. Plan how you will accomplish whatever it is and then go for it with no regret and no holds barred!
This is your life. Don't you think you have the right to live it with joy and passion?
