Lexmark X5650 Review

For a low to mid-range all-in-one, the Lexmark X5650 hits the mark. If you are just looking for an all-in-one to do daily tasks this might be a good one to consider. Something that the Lexmark X5650 has that I do not see often on all-in-ones anymore is a full-feature fax. At first I didn't think I would really use the fax, but in the end, I am glad that I purchased a printer with one. Other comparable brands had similar models for the same price but without the fax.

Another feature that I didn't think that I would use was the ability to print pictures without a computer! It was easy to do with the X5650. The X5650 also has slots for all of the major media card types and a PictBridge socket for a standard memory stick. The picture quality wasn't bad for a consumer type printer. The colors were vibrant and the blacks looked black. I wouldn't enter an art contest with the photos, but the X5650 prints just fine for everyday photos. I did notice that the quality decreased each time I printed a lot of photos. It wasn't noticeable on the regular print setting, but it was noticeable if you checked "Photo Quality". I also noticed that the ink cartridges didn't last too long. I thought maybe just the first ones would go quick with having to calibrate and test prints. However, on the second round of ink, those cartridges emptied fast as well. I thought that only my Epson printer was an ink hog! I would say the X5650 uses just above the average amount of ink as other like models. If you are going to be printing a lot of photos, I recommend temporarily replacing the black ink cartridge with the compatible 3 color cartridge made to take the black one's spot. You will get better quality photos and save your black ink.

I had no problems with the scanner. I found another great feature that I never thought I would use... scanning directly to a SD card! There is nothing really special about the scanner part of this all-in-one.

Overall, I would say the Lexmark X5650 [http://www.printer-products.com/p/lexmark.html] is a pretty decent workhorse for your household printing jobs. I can't complain much because of the price and most of my dislikes would be satisfied by spending more on a higher end model.
