Heading to Dorset England you will find the large town of Weymouth that is located near the mouth of the River Wey. A short distance from the towns of Isle of Portland, and Dorchester. History in this area goes all the way back into the 12th Century.

Though the fishing industry has been a great trade in the past, most of the current income of the town is based on tourism. The town is considered a great tourist attraction, and one that will give you the shot at visiting the Jurassic Coast.

That has been named as a World Heritage Site due to the great landforms and geology that have been discovered. The Harbor in Portland is the location of where the 2012 Olympic sailing events will be held too.

In this area in history it is thought that the Black Death developed very near the location. Or even that it was brought in from another country through Melcombe Regis port back in 1348. Still standing today are the ruins of Sandsfoot Castle that was built during the 16th Century.

A wonderful look at the Georgian architecture can be witnessed by looking at the Weymouth esplanade. It is now a home of many apartments but still a fabulous site to see. This is the largest town in the area, and has tons of history and so much to offer the visitor.

And it's most definitely an area where tourist do flock too, and the sunniest location in all of England. You have many beaches, lakes, shopping centers, and museums that you can visit, and don't forget a visit to the aquarium.

So learning a bit more about Weymouth will have you finding a very wonderful location. One that will give you plenty of ways to keep busy. So check it out for yourself and stop in for a visit sometime.
