One of the most beloved stories told at Christmastime is A Christmas Carol which was written by Charles Dickens in the 1800. It tells the tale of a man who has only been concerned about money and never about cultivating friendships with the people in his life. The night before Christmas, Ebenezer Scrooge, is visited by 3 ghosts who show him different scenes in his past, present and future. One of the scenes is his funeral in which no one even attended it. After being visited by these ghosts and watching all of these scenes from his life he is awoken with a new view on life and realizes the importance of everyone in his life.
As Christmas gets closer and closer pull out the story, or the DVD or even go catch the play. It will remind you and your family of how you can all benefit from the lessons taught in this tale. There are tons of different adaptations of this movie and you can find one that anyone will enjoy. Kids will like the Disney or the Muppet Version as opposed to the black and white classic which adults might enjoy better.
While we might not all be as rich as Scrooge, this story is a great reminder to both kids and adults about what is important in our lives. Getting caught up in the busyness in life makes us forget about what is most important. When bills continuously build up it seems that we should be focusing all of our extra time and energy on earning money and not helping others or growing our relationships. This story also reminds us of how much easier life can be when we have the help of our friends and family to help us along the way and we don't have to be visited by ghosts to learn all of this.
