War trivia is something that is of great interest to those with an interest in military, political, or social history. Unfortunate as it may be, the wars of our world's past have greatly defined who we are as our distinct societies today. War has seemed inevitable over the generations, and the great wars of any era seem to be what is most remembered about them.

A war quiz will show that there have been many theories posited by specialists on the reasons why nations feel the need to continually go to war. There have been arguments made about the basic violence in human nature. There have also been arguments made that wars are driven by location, population trends, or by ideology.

War trivia is usually specific to the war that it is focused on. To simply study war as a whole would be to consuming. For example, in the modern age, we typically focus on WW I, WW II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War when looking at American Military History.

When taking any kind of a war quiz that is taking a broad view of military history, it seems inevitable that WW II will be the primary focus. This conflict dwarfed all previous wars by such a large margin that it seems impossible to have a discussion about war in some way without referencing it.

The scale of WW II is part of what makes it so important. No other war involved so many different countries involved directly in the fighting. There was also no other war that created as many direct casualties. Estimates place the total death count of WW II somewhere between sixty and eighty million.

The other reason that this war is so important to the history of the world is because of the way it changed the fundamental ways of war being conducted. The new technologies introduced during this way were earth changing. None of them as much as the first attack with a nuclear bomb.

Two nuclear attacks were made by the Americans during this war, creating massive devastation in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since the advent of nuclear weapons, much of the international tension, and many people's fear of war, has been based on the power of those weapons. The attempt to control, and hopefully eliminate, nuclear weapons has been the focus of much international negotiation for over fifty years now.
