Options trading seems complicated to a beginner due to the new terminology, but once initiated it becomes easier. When you are writing a new contract or buying a new one then you are establishing an Open position.

This helps you to initiate one side of the contract. You can even close your position which means that you can sell the same position to someone else. Individual options can be traded through brokerage firms.

The rules of option trading must be in accordance to the Securities and exchange commission (SEC). These rules allow fair play for everyone. Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) is the oldest one.

Options are also traded International securities stock exchange (ISE) and Boston Options Exchange (BOX). All options are multiple listed that is they can be bought as well as sold.

Options are the most flexible choices for investments, though they may not be good for being handled by everyone. Inclusion of Options in your portfolio can make it profitable for you if you are willing to take some risks of the market in option trading.

If you buy a put it means that you think that the price will fall, this makes you bearish. On the other hand if you buy a call, it reveals that you are bullish and believe that the price will rise in the market.

For many people, Options act as a way to protect their portfolio from downfall and help in risk management. It is susceptible to three risks-implied volatility, convexity and movements in the spot rate. Risks can be avoided while option trading by the use of a trick known as Hedging.

Consider this example that an investor fears that the value of his shares are about to fall, then he can purchase put and that would give him the right to sell his stocks at strike price even before the expiration. In this way he keeps himself protected from the changing conditions in the economy.

Option trading is meant for the one who is very speculative in nature as the market of it is itself like this. Although Option market provides with the power of versatility but then it also comes with a lot of risks.

So if you are a beginner first learn all the terms, tricks and rules of the market before venturing into unpredictable money making area.
