What we eat affects our body - we know that very well. But what you feel also affects your body as much as what you eat. Have you ever been hurt so bad that you actually felt like your heart was being ripped apart? That is how emotions affect us. In time, regular episodes of stress, anger, bitterness, and hurt will take its toll on our heart.
How do negative emotions affect our heart? Stress creates hormones, that when released to one's system, can affect the flow of blood in and out of our hearts by clotting blood particles. High blood pressure is also caused by negative emotions, especially by panic, fear, anger. Negative feelings heat up the blood and you feel like exploding. Such is manifested through a splitting headache or a feeling of faint or fatigue.
So how do we deal with negative emotions? First, accept that negative emotions are but common. Everybody has it. What we need to do is learn how to deal with and release them. Emotional release translates to physical release as well. It regularizes the pumping action of our heart, making blood flow consistent and smooth.
Next, if we cannot deal with them, then avoid negative situations. It may seem the easy way out, but there are stress factors in our lives that just refuse to go away. In such case, we take the effort to avoid these situations. If someone has a habit of saying things that upset you, avoid contact with this person. We do a lot for our bodies by learning to say "no".
Lastly, surround yourself with happy people. Misery loves company, but happiness is more contagious! Do you realize that when you smile, people smile back at you? Be with people who are positive about life, who have the go-get-it attitude about life. We all have problems, but we don't need to sweat out all the small stuff. Think positive, and maybe, when you are not depressing yourself over your problem, you just might see the answers to happiness and contentment more clearly.
