Keeping your yard and the landscaping surrounding your property free of dead and dried leaves takes considerable energy using a hand-held rake. Leaf vacuums are an indispensable gardening tool that allows homeowners to spend more time enjoying their yards rather than cleaning them.

Leaf vacuums operate on your grass using the same principle that an indoor vacuum does on your carpeting. Using suction, they suck up dead leaves and other wind-blown debris littering your property, drawing them into an attached bag or canister for safe disposal into the garbage bin.

These vacuums are relatively simple to operate, powered either by gasoline or electricity. The operator waves the nozzle of the hand-held unit over the leaves or other debris that needs to be picked up. They help what would otherwise be a three or four hour job using water hoses, brooms and rakes into a quick 30 minute chore. Because the vacuuming procedure limits the amount of bending and lifting that's necessary, the leaf vacuum operator doesn't suffer from back and muscle aches the following day. These are convenient enough to be used even by seniors with limited mobility.

Unlike leaf blowers which simply blow the leaves and debris into a big pile which must be disposed of using additional labor, leaf vacuums scoop up the leaves into an attachment which can easily be emptied into the trash or saved on the compost pile.

In addition to their speed and ease of use, leaf vacuums remove dead leaves and litter from the lawn area permanently rather than blowing them down the street, into the gutter or simply onto another pile on your property.

A hand-held leaf vacuum is a good investment for most yards. But for much larger properties, leaf vacuums designed like riding mowers are also available to keep the leaf cleaning process quick and efficient even over great distances. Also, consider a high pressure cleaner for maintaining the beauty of your yard.
