Lawyer Marketing - You Achieved a Record Verdict - How Do You Tell the World?

Expert Author Gerry Oginski

Your jury is deliberating. They come back with a verdict that breaks all records for the type of case you have just tried. You are thrilled and excited. You can't wait to start telling people about your incredible verdict. What do you do in order to tell the world about your earth-shattering verdict?

Traditionally, lawyers have done the following things:

1. Held a press conference,
2. Sent out a press release,
3. Tried to get interviewed on the TV news station or from a local newspaper,
4. Sent out an announcement to their colleagues, friends and family via regular mail, or even went so far as to take out a display ad in local newspapers.

Recently, lawyers have turned to the Internet to get their message out. Lately, they have use the following methods to tell the world about their achievement:

1. Creating a blog post,
2. Writing an article,
3. Telling a social network about their success.

The problem with the traditional forms of letting the world know about your success is that they relied for the most part, on other people or companies getting your message out. Most news outlets restricted reporting on jury verdicts and promoting particular lawyers. Press conferences were labor-intensive and need to be organized and well attended. Scoring TV news interviews were difficult unless you had the connections or were willing to pay to get those connections. Sending out snail-mail is okay, but you lose something in the translation weeks after your verdict.

Telling your social network is virtually instantaneous. Using blog posts and articles to get your message online is one good way to tell the world about what you have achieved. Keep in mind however that there is still a better way to get your message across that is engaging and shows that you are a master and expert in your field of law. I am specifically talking about creating an informative video that discusses in detail what you have accomplished and how you were able to do it.

Lawyers who are able to create timely educational and informative video about breaking news have distinct advantages over their colleagues and competitors. Most lawyers are slow to adopt new technology, and although the use of video is quite prevalent online, most lawyers simply don't know how to create quality video and get it up online quickly and distribute it.

Potential consumers expect to see video by a lawyer. If you have obtained a remarkable verdict or result in your case, your clients also expect to see you discussing that on video.
