Laptop Or Desktop - Which One Is Better?

Expert Author Lucy Greenswood

When choosing between a laptop and a desktop computer, people often wonder, which is the better option between the two. The question is in no way an unwarranted one. However, the fact remains that there is little difference between the two, apart from the size and the ability to move around with the computer. Yes, there are some basic differences between a laptop and a desktop but this does not in any way affect the functionality of the computers. They function alike and can be used like any other computer.

Why then is the question raised about the quality of a laptop or desktop? One reason that can be attributed to this question coming up repeatedly could be that laptops are perceived to be better than their older counterparts the desktop. This may be because they are smaller, and have more features incorporated into the system. The reality is that the functional differences between these styles of computer are almost non-existent. A desktop may be larger and may not allow mobility, but it is also a sturdy piece of equipment that can be used for a long time.

A laptop computer is a great piece of equipment for a person who is always on the move and needs to carry a large amount of data with them. They may be visiting areas, which may not afford easy accessibility to a computer, thereby increasing the value of the laptop even more. As you can begin to see, the real comparison to be made is the freedom of movement that comes from a laptop or desktop computer.

Will you face any difficulties when using desktop? As desktop computers are installed inside premises at a single place, you will have no difficulties when using the computer at any time. The desktop will not be exposed to inclement weather, which is a common problem with laptops. You will have to be accommodating enough to allow a number of cables dangling from your desktop, which will not usually be the case if you are using a laptop. Generally, the only cable you will ever need to attach to a laptop is one that charges the battery.

As for whether laptops or desktop computers are better, it can only be said that the user is the best person to make a decision on this subject. It is the usage that matters and not the computer. If the user is more comfortable with a laptop or desktop, then that is the better computer for them.
