LOTRO Multi-Boxing - Is it For You?

Have you ever been frustrated in LOTRO waiting to find a group for an instance run? Perhaps you wanted to level quicker or grind deeds faster. Maybe you're just busy and want to optimize your gaming time. Whatever the reason for your frustration, multi-boxing in the Lord of the Rings online can make your gaming experience more pleasant, challenging, and exciting

Personally, the reason I got into multi-boxing on LOTRO was a combination of the above reasons. I was extremely busy with work and was balancing a personal life with friends and a girlfriend. I simply didn't have much time for playing my favorite MMORPG. I was constantly frustrated when I finally had time to play and was unable to participate in instance runs, complete fellowship quests, and work on some of the more difficult deeds. It was infuriating have to waste the little play time I had looking for other players.

One day playing LOTRO, I happened to come across a strange looking scene in the middle of Bree-land. I saw a group of two players, a dwarf champion and dwarf minstrel. The minstrel looked to be just following the dwarf champion around casting heals when needed. It was obvious that there weren't two players playing. I had a feeling that one player was somehow controlling both characters. I sent the champion a message asking if both characters were his. He responded kindly, explaining the concept of dual boxing. He had two accounts, two computers, and put the minstrel on follow. He was able to take on just about every mob by himself without too much trouble.

I was intrigued by the concept for several reasons. First, I knew it would be a wonderful thing to be able to take on any content or monsters on my own without having to bother getting a group together. Since my play times were during the off hours when not many people are playing, this was very alluring. Second, it seemed like it would be an interesting challenge. Controlling two players at once would force me to really understand and get into the game on a whole different level.

Over the past two years my dual boxing has grown into multi-boxing with six computers and six accounts. I have successfully been able to complete any deed, quest, and almost any instance in the game. I still play with my kinship members, but even grouping with others is better because you can always find a group! I can tell you that if you're pressed for time or can't get enough people to fill out a raid, being able to multi-boxer is extremely useful.

If you are bored playing LOTRO or any other MMORPG, if you are sick and tired of waiting around for groups to form, if you're too busy working to get much game time, or if you just want to add another level of fun and challenge to the game, I strongly suggest that you consider multi-boxing. It's probably the only reason I've stayed active and enjoyed the game as much as I have over the past few years.
