Some of these risk factors can not be controlled such as the number one risk factor associated with this disease which is the aging process as well as certain inherited genes which have also been found to play a significant roll in AD.

It is estimated that individuals over the age of sixty five have an increased risk for Alzheimer's which doubles every five years and that after the age of eighty five up to fifty percent of all people have this disease. However, there are certain environmental and lifestyle habits that can be controlled which have been identified as highly potential risk factors for this disease.

Controllable Lifestyle or Environmental Factors which may contribute to AD

Studies have been done which indicate that a lack of physical activity may play a roll when it comes to developing Alzheimer's as well as other forms of dementia. These studies indicate that individuals over the age of sixty five who engaged in physical activity on a regular basis had a decreased risk up to as much as forty percent of acquiring AD.

The reason for this is believed to be that cognitive skills can be improved with regular exercise or physical activity.
