Kids Between One and Three Years Old

Expert Author Anna Daniels

Kids between one and three years old are quite interesting. Their personalities are in full development and they become more and more independent, exploring and learning a lot of new things about the world and what is going on round them. In order to succeed in doing these things, little kids need a lot of attention and affection from their parents and the ones they are close to. Unfortunately, a lot of parents make the huge mistake of treating the little ones like they cannot understand and know anything about the world the others live in. This approach also leads to extreme behaviours, either to an overprotective one or to a too restrictive one, both of these situations creating an improper environment for their healthy development.

This period is also known as the first childhood and it is defined by the use the child's egocentric vision of the world. Children between one and three years old don't like sharing their toys with anyone because they don't understand that the others have their needs, too. Also, they try to handle things on their own as they like feeling independent. These kids develop based on the way their parents treat them and on the trust their parents show them. When they feel that their parents don't love then enough and don't give them the attention they need, they can go to adopting extreme measures, such as a violent behaviour.

The most important thing you need to know about kids between one and three years old is that they are all about fun and games and this world is completely different from what adults understand by living their lives.
