As parents, we need to provide our kids with what they need and with things that they can use for their own good. Buying furniture pieces that are specifically designed for them is among the things which we need to provide for our children. Inside the home are various pieces of furniture that we grown-ups use conveniently. Though these tools may also be used by the little ones, chances are they might not be able to use them properly because those are not designed for them.
We were in a mall when my we saw a set of cute kiddy chair and table. Of course my daughter asked me to buy it for her. At first I was hesitant to buy the set because I was thinking that there are already chairs and tables at home that she can use whether for studying or for playing.
Many other parents probably think this way whenever asked by their children to buy a certain children furniture such as the kiddy table and chair set. There are similar furniture pieces at home that can also be used as furniture for kids thus buying another piece will just be an unnecessary spending of money.
Much as I want to object, I still ended up paying for the kiddy chair and table set. My daughter was really delighted with her new set of table and chair complete with decorations such as alphabets and numbers. I can say that the purchase was after all worth it considering it really made my daughter excited and happy. What made it more special is the fact that after 4 years when we bought the set, my daughter is still using it for many applications. The chair is already broken but the table is still working okay. She studies on it, makes her assignment on it, draws on it, plays on it, etc.
So my unsolicited advice to other parents is to buy a kiddy chair and table to be used by the children. This is not a waste of money, trust me. When the child has his or her very own tale or chair, you encourage him/her to be independent, just like what happened to my daughter. She knows that the set is hers so I told her that it is her responsibility to keep the table and chair organized and she does until now. It is true that there is already a family table and chair at home that the child can use but it would be very uncomfortable and inconvenient for a small child to use it. A kiddy table and chair will play an important role as your child develops and grows.
I think that it does not necessarily have to be very expensive, it only needs to be child friendly and functional. However, choose a set that is durable and hard wearing especially for the chair. You can buy a simple set of table and chair and decorate it with cartoons, flowers, butterflies and other appropriate designs and colors. Use non-toxic materials. You can choose a set whose sizes will match your child's stature yet you may also choose something bigger so the child will not quickly outgrow it. Remember, choose a set with smooth and curved edges. You may also choose a table with drawers where some school stuffs may be stored.
