Let’s get one thing straight right away; constant heartburn has absolutely nothing to do with your heart. It really has to do with acid burning the esophagus causing pain in the area near your heart and into your throat. If your heartburn is infrequent, you can use antacids, which work extremely fast and last for a few hours. If you have constant heartburn, you should think about exploring more serious treatments.
How do you know if you have chronic or constant heartburn? Simple; if you have heartburn more than twice a week, you fit into the constant heartburn category.
There are many medications that you can take, and as medicine becomes more and more advanced, the heartburn treatments become more varied and effective. It is important to go see a doctor who can help you set up a regiment of medication and lifestyle changes to kick your constant heartburn to the curb.
In addition to the medication that your doctor may prescribe, your treatment must involve making serious lifestyle changes. These changes include:
1. Improve your eating habits. Eliminate salty and fatty foods, and avoid food that you noticed always caused your heartburn.
2. Improve your sleeping habits. Develop a regular sleep schedule and make sure your body gets the sleep it needs. Your constant heartburn may start to become more and more infrequent.
3. Lose weight immediately. Weight loss has numerous health benefits in addition to ending constant heartburn. It can be difficult but may be the most important aspect to your long term health. If you are having trouble, there are many programs and professionals that can guide you to effective weight loss.
4. Stop smoking. If you are a smoker, this is an essential change that you must make in your life to improve your overall health. Not only will your constant heartburn improve, but you will begin to taste food again, be able to walk up stairs, and your clothes and breath will stop smelling.
5. Avoid stress. Stress can contribute negatively to many health aspects, and constant or chronic heartburn is one of them.
6. Start exercising. This will make you feel better and will help you lose weight. Join a gym and your constant heartburn will improve, slowly but surely.
These long term changes, when combined and confirmed by a medical professional, will help you feel better and will end your heartburn. There are also many other natural heartburn cures that work almost instantly.
