Keloid Treatment Options - What is the Least Invasive Method For Diminishing Keloids?
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Due to the high cost and risk involved with invasive, surgical options, those suffering from keloids turn to silicone gels and creams for their keloid treatment. With time and repeated application, silicone based scar products flatten and reduces scars, encourages non-keloid cell growth, as well as reduce the pain and itching often associated with scar. Furthermore, using these treatments can be accomplished at home without doctors.

Other treatments vary in technique, cost and results. The unexplainable and uncomfortable scars cause keloid sufferers despair, but choosing a treatment need not be a desperation play. Effective treatments such as using a silicone based scar gel flattens, fades and makes scars less noticeable.

The saying is, "Surgeons cut". A surgeon will shave away at the scar then compress the area to flatten any new scarring. Stubborn scars require steroid injections and even radiation keloid treatments. Keloids are a mystery to medicine and a surgical option can, ironically make the scar grow larger than the original.

Dermatologists employ two common treatments. Cortisone shots flatten the scar as patients hope. A cortisone keloid treatment may redden the scar, however. A skin doctor will likely recommend once-monthly injections. He will underscore that this treatment option takes time for the redness to lessen.

To avoid the reddening problem, dermatologists use lasers for removing keloids. A laser zapping will burn down the scar but may burn your bank account since insurance companies can deny coverage of laser keloid treatment. Again, repeated keloid treatment yields the best results. However, as previously stated, many have had great success using topical, over-the-counter scar products such as silicone based scar gels.
