Keeping Your Website Current - Three Ways to Maintain Your Blog Site

Expert Author Wayne M Peters

You have contracted with a well respected web design company and you have taken hold of a brand new website. This new site is supposed to keep you in the front eye of your customers or potential new clients. There are three things that are essential for your website to keep it current.

1. Maintain your blog.

If you have been given a blog as part of your website, make sure that you keep it current. You want to make sure that your website does not look like the old faded billboard sign on the side of the road that once upon a time was shiny and new. One of the first reactions of a prospective new client when visiting your website will be them wondering if you are still in business if the last blog entry was a year ago. An up to date blog will have a posting at least once every month. Remember, a blog entry is not a whitepaper on the policies of your organization, but rather a conversational piece about the latest news in your industry, the life of your business, or expert commentary. The blog is meant to be interesting reading.

2. Send out newsletters.

If you have a newsletter signup form on your website, be sure to send out a newsletter to your subscribers. They signed up and want to receive communication from them. Provide them with useful and relevant information even if it is only once every two months. What you don't want to do is not send out anything to your subscribers as you will leave them with the impression that you are not interested in them or the fact that they want to give you business.

3. Respond to your contact requests.

You have a wonderful quote request form on your website that invites people to request more information from you. The quickest way to lose a sale or business is to not respond when someone asks you for more information on your products or services. Make sure that the email address that you have the quote request form send the enquiry to is up to date and valid. The results of the form cannot reach you if you no longer have that email address.

The purpose of having the website is for it to work for you but your website cannot update itself or communicate back to your potential customers in the same way as you would. Keep it fresh, keep it active and respond to those who take the time to visit your site and request your attention.
