Keeping Your Kid From Joining Gangs

Raising a family today often means that both parents have to find work to provide properly for their needs. But with both parents out at work it can sometimes leave the children lonely and neglected.

Many parents have no idea that this is one of the main reasons why some young kids think about joining gangs.

Because the kids are frustrated and lonely they often struggle to find new friends when they go to school and often this can lead to hem getting constantly picked on by bullies. They see the only way out of this dilemma is to join a gang and be part of their safe environment.

For some reason these kids believe that being part of a gang will keep them safe and looked after. The thing that they do not realize is that it can often put them in more serious danger if gang rivalries start. It can also put their families at risk from reprisals too.

Of course this was never their intention to have their families put at risk. Gang warfare was not something that they envisaged when joining the gang.

The sad thing is that gang members are 60% more at risk of becoming a homicide victim than other people. This is a sad fact and one the kids never considered when all they anted was to be a part of a family.

Keeping your kids safe does not mean giving up your job. You can still make your kids feel wanted by taking an interest in their lives. Try to find them some hobby or sport that they like and encourage them in whatever it is that they like to do. By taking this action you may prevent your kids from wanting to join a gang.

By giving your kids something to believe in, you not only make them more self confident but you could even save their lives without them realizing it.
