One of the problems many people encounter when they're working hard to achieve a flat stomach is the weekend. During the week many people will stick with their weight loss diet and exercise program, but when the weekend comes they eat out, stop exercising and drink too much. The question people often ask is will this affect my weight loss goals?
The short answer is YES if the wrong foods and drinks are consumed in to excess. Now before you think that means you can't drink a beer or two, or eat any junk food on the weekend, then wait...I have some good news.
There are smarter ways to still enjoy a good social time while not undoing the hard work you've been working on all week.
For example, rather than drink full-strength beers, keep it to light beers. Mix low calorie or calorie-free club soda with the alcohol - this helps lower your overall calorie intake. As alcohol has about 7 calories per gram, and contains no beneficial nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, you are consuming "empty" calories. You DO NOT WANT to consume excessive empty calories if you want to keep off the belly fat.
Sodas are no better. They are often made with high-fructose corn syrup and, recently a Princeton University research team found that, in addition to causing significant weight gain in lab animals, long-term consumptions of high-fructose corn syrup also led to abnormal increases in body fat, especially in the abdomen. Remember, you're trying to lose that excess belly fat and achieve a trim look!
If you are eating out then it is vital that you DO NOT EAT food that has been deep fried. Deep fried foods are loaded with trans fats (otherwise known as unsaturated fats). Health authorities worldwide recommend that consumption of trans fat be reduced to trace amounts. So if you order that burger and fries, skip the fries or potato chips and replace them with steamed vegetables or a side salad. A burger, or grilled chicken sandwich won't ruin all your hard work on the abs.
If you have overdone it on the weekend then try this fantastic fat-burning exercise. Run as hard and as fast as you can for 50-100 yard dashes, rest 1-2 minutes, and repeat 5-10 times. It will take you only between 10 to 20 minutes and you'll see the pounds drop off for a slimmer stomach.
