Keeping cash about is good for unknown emergencies. A good contingency when circumstances or emergencies may demand cash. One can stash cash almost anywhere, stay out of obvious old school locations like the previously mentioned mattress, any cookie jar or coffee cans, etc. If one would simply look about, they can find many good places to keep money hidden but easily accessible. Consider keeping a stash in the freezer or taping an envelope of cash on the underside of drawers may be places to consider.

There are even containers specifically designed for that purpose, burying valuables. These containers will keep contents dry and stand-up to the rigors of long-term burial. The biggest point here is to remember where one buries the stash. Beyond that make sure the location is isolated and unlikely to be disturbed, yet easily accessible when needed.
