However unethical you may think infidelity to be, it intrigues us primarily because of the thrill, adventure and the challenges attached to it. No longer a man's domain, women too are known to be cheating on their husbands. But the reason why people make so much noise about saving your marriage after infidelity is because it is a cruel act of playing with some loved one's trust. It is also a fact that in most cases of infidelity can leave life-long scars in a marriage. Of course, it often leads to divorce court too.

So if you are keen on saving your marriage after infidelity you have to be patient, understanding and give yourself lots of time for things to get back to normal. A breach of trust is something serious. You have to remember that the efforts needed to repair a broken heart are nothing compared to that needed to rebuild the lost trust.

Here are some points to ponder before you start your efforts for saving your marriage after infidelity:

• The desire to save the marriage after infidelity should be mutual. You cannot save the marriage if the will to continue is only one-sided, no matter who cheated.

• The second point to remember, which can well be the backbone on which you rebuild the lost trust, is that you must be prepared for unconditional forgiveness to the errant spouse. No mud slinging, and no blame games in the future. If you want the marriage to survive after infidelity, take a vow not to talk about the subject ever again.

• Another important pointer for saving your marriage after infidelity is to treat the 'affair' as a wake up call meant for both of you to sit up and take notice of the various need gaps which are corroding the relationship. If everything was fine between the two of you, there would not have been any question of infidelity in the first place. There are obviously several areas where you are not meeting each others' needs - be it intellectual, physical or emotional. It is time to set things right, so that you can be successful in saving your marriage after infidelity.

• Finally what you need to do for saving your marriage after infidelity is to put it all you have, in rebuilding that lost trust. It might take several months or even years for your spouse to trust you again, but your actions and sincerity of purpose would show better than empty promises.

If you think that your marriage is worth of saving... you should fight for it!

Whether you are still together and trying to deal with infidelity or you are already separated and want to save your marriage... the next step is absolutely crucial!

Don't make the mistake of saying or doing something that will kill your chances of getting back together with your spouse. Find out what you need to do to save your marriage and emotionally reconnect with your spouse.
