Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica, and Star Trek space weapons here we come. China wants to build weapons in space now; surprise, surprise, surprise. Interestingly enough, I wonder how many folks didn't see that coming, because, I certainly did. After all, their downing of one of their own satellites was just a practice run. In the past Air Superiority was key, but in the future, it's all going to be taken one step further, as the modern Net Centric Battlespace expands; this time into space!
Consider if you will recently the article in China Economic Review, an article dated November 3, 2009; "Air force head: China to build weapons in space" where General Xu Qiliang of the Chinese Red Army noted that it is inevitable that China will build weapons in space, and he indicated they are already working on those technologies. Wow, thanks to the US Space Technology they were given.
In the article it states; "The head of China's air force, General Xu Qiliang, has said the country has plans to build weapons in space. Xu said it was "imperative" as the air force sees the country that controls space will have military dominance. Xu said the air force will also concentrate on regional stability and peace keeping operations. Military analysts take Xu's comments as a sign that China is changing its military strategy from one of "passive defense" to "active defense."
Apparently, the Rand Corporation Think Tank in Santa Monica is smoking something, or someone very much miscalculated when they said China was only interesting in defending itself within its own borders. And that China's "International Behavior" did not indicate any sort of forward active military efforts outside its borders.
So, it appears to me that General Xu Qilang has not only been reading Sun Tzu, he's also been reading a bit of Karl von Clausewitz's "On War" too. Apparently, the United States underestimates our largest trading partner and their true intentions. I wonder why, because what is happening behind the scenes is completely contrary to the purported created reality we hear in diplomatic circles. Please consider all this.
