Born on June 7, 1957, Juan Luis Guerra Seijas is a famous singer, producer, and songwriter from Dominican Republic. Seijas has sold more than 30 million records and has won numerous singing awards from different award giving bodies such as Latin Grammy Awards, where he won nine; Grammy Awards, two awards; and Latin Billboard Music Awards, also two awards. In 2007 alone, Seijas won five Latin Grammy Awards which made him a record holder of winning the most number of Latin Grammy's in a single night, a record he shared with Juanes.
A native of Santo Domingo, Seijas is the son of a basketball player Gilberto Guerra and Olga Seijas. He is regarded as one of the most famous Dominican artists in the world today. Aside from gaining popularity in his home country, Seijas is also popular in other Latin American countries, Europe, and the United States. He is known for using different styles of music such as bolero-bachata, meringue, rock and roll, salsa, balada, and sometimes even gospel.
Before he started his singing career, Seijas attended Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo where he studied philosophy and literature. He also took up guitar and music theory at El Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Santo Domingo then transferred to Berklee College of Music in Boston where he graduated with a diploma in Jazz Composition in 1982. Soon after, he returned to his homeland and started his professional music career by releasing his first album "Soplando" in 1984. The rest is history and now Juan Luis Guerra Seijas is a person who gave so much pride to Dominican flag.
