Perhaps, you have talked to a man of the cloth who has told you all about Jesus Christ, our Savior. Perhaps, this individual has quoted scripture, and shown how Jesus Christ led a perfect life, but unfortunately, was crucified by those which were unfaithful, the pagans who did not believe in his God. Not long ago, I was at a Starbucks, and someone offered to invite me to a local church barbecue. The reality is I am not a churchgoer, and I wasn't interested, therefore, I let him know.
"Jesus Died on The Cross for You," The Pastor Said. And Einstein told us all to question authority, so, I asked; "Why" which turned out to be the biggest mistake I made all week. Let me tell you what happened next. The pastor went on to tell me how Jesus Christ died on the cross for me, and my sins. He said I was a sinner, and an imperfect human being, and Jesus Christ was the son of God, his only begotten son.
Indeed, I told him that was a very nice story, and I had read the Bible, and thought it made quite a few very good points, and that I thought everyone should probably read it for its literary value. Apparently, this did not go over very well with the pastor. So, I became more blunt with him, I told him that;
"It was very nice of Jesus to die in the cross for me, but I hadn't asked him to do that, and I wasn't born or living during that time, and if I had been, I would've told him not to bother."
You see, it may be true that I'm not perfect, but by the same token, I don't feel guilty for not being perfect because I'm doing the best that I can. I do not feel like a sinner, although with such strict guidelines, as in the 10 Commandments, I've probably broken a few. Still, I have more integrity and ethics than most others that I meet, most everyone I have met in fact, and I really didn't need a lecture from the pastor at the local church.
In fact, I wished him well, told him no thank you, and I said I was sorry that Jesus Christ went through so much trouble on my behalf, but I could have saved him the trouble, had he just asked me. There was no need for him to die, or for God to forsake and sacrifice his only begotten son. Meanwhile, I bought one of those little fishes with their legs on it, and put it on the back of my car. So, smile as you drive by me on the road, I wish you well too.
