When off roaders heard that a new 4x4 compact SUV was being released, they were jumping up for joy. That is why 1984, became a good year for off roaders and Jeep. That is because Jeep had manufactured the new Jeep Cherokee, which was their new 4x4 compact SUV. While the vehicle carried the same name as the previous Cherokee, their name was all they had in common. The new vehicle was shorter, lighter and more fuel efficient. The new Cherokee was designed as a downsized version of its predecessor Jeep Wagonner.
Due to the well designed vehicle, the Jeep Cherokee quickly became one of the most popular models on the market. The popularity of this model was so surprising that the manufactures were caught off guard by the success. For many years, this was Jeep's main vehicle. The vehicle began to generate a following of its own, and became the iconic vehicle for most Compact SUV’s; their name will go down in history as the most well known vehicle there ever was. When they continued to have success, Jeep decided to keep the Cherokee as it was. They figured why mess with a success. Therefore over the years, most of the changes that were made to the vehicle were to add more character and to jazz it up.
One of the items that make the Jeep Cherokee command such a strong appeal lies in its power and downright practicality. This was a vehicle that had the power to go anywhere. It can go from an off road situation to an on road situation in a heartbeat. In order to achieve this, the vehicle is geared with maximum power. While the Cherokee is geared, with such power the accessories are practical and easy to use. What makes this vehicle so different is that the vehicle was made to be used, with its accessories well within reach. However, as time progresses, Jeep has had to make some modifications to keep with the times. They have added some luxury items.
One of the ways they were able to do this and retain the original Jeep Cherokee reputation was to added in a few, limited specialty lines. The earlier upgrades were focused on the engine and hardware of the vehicle. The later upgrades have been focused on the interior and offering different trim packages. Jeep added a two tone pain job, leather seats. They also added eight speaker sound systems in the interior of some of their models.
