Ok, so have your website, you have your product,online business opportunity, or service, you know that more and more searches are done on a daily basis than ever before, you have maybe set aside a marketing budget, your ready to go, you can taste success, off you go like a bull in a china shop. But wait, what do you do first, how do your get yourself out there, how are you going to get yourself noticed, how are you going to get yourself seen.
You have, AdWords, Video, classifieds, forums, ppc ppa ppv, twitter, bebo, MySpace, social bookmarking, Facebook, orkut, blogging, safelists, link exchanges, banner exchange, and 101 various forms of paid advertising, to name but a few, the list is endless. Getting traffic to your site is gonna be easy, a walk in the park. You throw yourself into your marketing, with every ounce of energy and commitment that you have, and 9 times out of ten you achieve zilch, why, because, when your starting out, you try to do it all, and you try and do it all today, you attempt all the different forms of marketing without really knowing what you are doing, so you inevitably do them all badly.
My belief is to keep things very very simple.
Pick one form of marketing, and simply learn it, make it your business to learn every aspect of it, every different approach, every different technique, do some research, believe me the the web is full of info and what to do and more importantly what not to do. When you have mastered, and become totally confident with your chosen method, continue with that, while adding another, then when you have mastered that, add another, then another, and another.
Follow this principle and you will see results.
I personally am a big believer in systems, creating some structure to what you are doing, a plan of action if you like, again when starting out, set yourself up to win, there is little point in drawing up your daily to do list, with so many things on there that you not got a chance in hell of completing the list, this will leave you feeling a little disheartened, so you do what a large proportion of people do, which is to give up. When your drawing up your to do list, remember you can always add to it as you become more skilled at what you are doing,what takes 2 hour to do today will more likely be taking you just 30 minutes 7 days from now.
